Travelled down to London on the train to do some work at the datacentre tomorrow. I like the train journey – it’s relaxing (providing the train isn’t packed full) and almost forces you to chill out as you’re locked in a moving vehicle for a couple of hours and you’ve got nothing, at all, to do. I quite like the simplicity of it all.
Of course, that’d be great if the phone stopped ringing.
There’s a happy co-incidence with the work I’m doing tomorrow, and the fact I’ll be in the smoke tonight – Spurs are playing at home in the UEFA Cup last 16 tonight. Seems like a far more interesting use of my evening than sitting looking at a hotel room TV! I hold a ‘Lilywhite’ membership, so a ticket isn’t a problem – pity that didn’t help me when I applied for Carling Cup Final tickets, pff.
The journey is fairly straightforward – DLR to Bank, quick Underground hop to Liverpool Street, and then the slowest train in the world, stopping at every station on the line, from Liverpool Street to White Hart Lane. It takes about 45 minutes all-in.
The game itself is a disappointment. We play right into PSV’s hands, and give them exactly the game they want – soaking up our pressure and possession and hitting us on the counter-attack. New signing, Gilberto was nothing short of, well, fucking awful, actually. This guy can’t play football. We were unimpressive in attack, and only Woodgate and King gave a good account for themselves in defence.
Visited the club shop on the way out, as you do (!), and picked up a t-shirt for Aimee and a Carling Cup Winners commemorative shirt for, erm, me.
Made my way back to the hotel and reward myself with a cold Kronenbourg before settling down to a) write this, and b) get some shut-eye for my busy day tomorrow.
