A grand day! Spent all day with Aimee, taking her for a wonder around an exceptionally busy Meadowhall looking for a Mother’s Day gift or two for a certain mummy. This also has the added extra benefit of giving Emma a few hours to herself without having to worry about the chaos Aimee creates. After some initial browsing, we stopped at one of the Starbucks inside and shared a Frappumappuflappychineechinquechentochino, panini and a muffin.

Discovered two things; 1) Aimee really likes the aforementioned frozen smoothie thing and, 2) she really, really likes mustard! I broke off bits of the panini for her to manage, as normal – I gave her a piece, and didn’t notice until she stuffed it in her face, that it was covered in mustard. She pulled a somewhat confused face, licked her lips, and grinned at me “Mmmmmmmm!”.

Wandered around and found everything we needed – eventually. It’s a bit of a first for me – I’m fairly hopeless at the best of times, and I’ve not actually been round Meadowhall on my own with a pushchair before. It’s actually a fairly unfriendly place when you’ve got a baby. There’s only a couple of lifts (some are being ‘refurbished’), which have crazy queues – which helpfully get queue-jumped by impatient fuckwits and old folk that should know better. Plus, some of the shops were clearly designed without pushchairs, or the disabled – for that matter – in mind. Some stores are impossible to negotiate with a pushchair. Ridiculous.

I also picked up an Apple wireless keyboard from the Apple Store. I promised myself I wouldn’t do it, but I did. I really like the flatter keyboard that Apple provide with the new iMac, but space on my desk is very limited, so the smaller dimensions of the wireless one made sense. Perhaps not financial sense, mind, but I managed to justify it in my head. :)

We then left the centre and went for the next task of the day – the weekly shop. Morrisons is never a pleasant experience, except perhaps at around 5.30pm on a weekday, when no one is shopping. Today was no change – it was rammed. Food shopping, on my own, with no voice of reason or shopping list, and a 16 month old baby…. I must be mad!

As it turns out, Aimee was very good – she wasn’t reaching out for every item on every shelf today – went for the odd thing, but not excessively. She found herself quite enamored with the Ristorante Pizza box, and took to holding it as we went round the aisles.

Got the shopping done and home and spent the rest of the day playing with the monster. By rights, going round Meadowhall on the first Saturday of the month after payday, before Mother’s Day, at midday, and then following that up with a couple of hours in a packed supermarket and all with a 16 month in tow should have driven me insane – but it didn’t – not even remotely – it was a lovely, lovely day.
