A few years ago, seven of them in fact, the pop-punk band Feeder released a music video for their catchy tune, “Just A Day” which featured several angsty-teenyboppers bouncing around their bedrooms miming to Feeder’s hit. The video is a cult classic, and fits the mood of the song perfectly.

With the advent of interwebby video self publishing (read: Youtube), millions of similarly angsty teens have been continuing this trend and recording themselves on their tin-pot webcams miming away to their favourite chart hits. I guess it, erm, passes the time. I suppose. Horses for courses and all that.

Perhaps I’ve been under a rock for the last couple of years, but this seems to be an extremely avidly followed pastime, with thousands upon thousands of videos uploaded to the public domain via Youtube and Google Video. What this glut of freely produced, zero royalties-required video content has spawned is some of the worst, but most compulsive, television you’ll ever witness.

I was idly flicking through the music channels offered by Sky’s digital TV service, looking for some FUCKING DECENT MUSIC and failing pretty comprehensively, when I happened upon Sky Channel 376 – Bedroom.TV.

Despite the name, it, amazingly, isn’t a phone-in filth-chat channel (though there are plenty of those, filth-fans). It’s a station devoted to showing these shitty Youtube creations. Piss poor lipsyncs of popular (I hesitate to use the word ‘classics’) songs broadcast to all. It’s train-wreck TV at its finest, with you unable to draw your eyes away from the poor sad little bastard miming his heart out to Enrique Iglesias whilst simultaneously trying to look like a studmuffin and without forgetting the words to the song he’s miming to.

It really has to be experienced to be appreciated. I’ve not laughed this much at a whole TV station since I first saw channel Five.

I’ve worked late most evenings this week, so I’ve not spent anywhere near as much time with Aimee as I’d like. However, Emma’s dad is visiting this weekend, with his step-grandchildren, and they’re all off to watch a pantomime at the Lyceum whilst I get to spend some quality time with the monster. Huzzah!
